RIGGIDY JIG traditional children's songs from around the world with TABLEY BELLOWS all acoustic band

Family

We made our first “Riggidy Jig” children's song collection back in 1993 when our own children were small and the only music available for very young children – usually repetitive and synthetic – was driving us all insane.

We've chosen traditional children's songs around the world, including some perennial favourites from the UK, but also less familiar children's folk songs from Scandinavia, China and Africa. The songs are all well loved by the children at Nicola's primary school, and have proved to be just as popular with babies, pre-schoolers, parents and grandparents.

Thanks to an extensive grapevine of friends, colleagues and pupils,
“Riggidy Jig” has travelled all over the world, leading to a further collection:

What is Tabley Bellows?

Family

In 1986 Steve and Nicola formed a busking duo (accordion and sopranino saxophone) and named it “Tabley Bellows” after our
first home in Tabley Road, Islington.

For “Riggidy Jig” we have added a wide range of instruments to reflect the diversity of the songs, including marimba, autoharp, bass clarinet
and world percussion ranging from clay pots to car hubcaps.

We've been inspired by music of many genres – mainly classical,
jazz and folk – and are proud of the all-acoustic, multicultural sound
of Tabley Bellows.
